But yesterday was so .... good.
Sunshine goes to sleep when she feels like it. It is a fact which is inevitable. She lays in bed listening to our conversations and TV and cleaning and playing with her toes and hair and little pieces of trash she stores under her mattress. We accept this (read, by bedtime, don't care if she sleeps at all, as long as she does it in her darkened bedroom with no (observable by us) noise). Usually around midnight (I think, Ive quit actually checking).
She had a doctor's appointment at 10AM.
At north campus. 90 Miles away. (which is am improvement over south campus, which is over 130 miles away)
Two hours.
In the car.
Leaving the house 3 hours before she normally rolls out of bed.
She drank her breakfast and put on her car vest. (Which, by the way, she still revere's as her "car safety vest" and tells anyone who will listen that her vest helps her make good choices in the car when she can't make them by herself and keeps her safe when the car is moving and keeps her safe.)
We headed out.
We drove
and we drove.
and we drove
and then,
we drove some more...
Finally, we get to Children's. Where we sit. And we wait.
Then they call Sunshine back and look in her ears (where the doctor can't find her kittens!), in her nose (no kittens there either! this is getting sad), and in her throat.
It is decided that she needs the golf balls removed before they cause more problems.
We talk about surgery. Sunshine is a little worried about pain and shes getting scared.
Sunshine gets "sassy" but is reminded to "be respectful" and it calms down. Between dr.s, Sunshine reads about "little K" and actually fills in words on her own!
We finally are freed from the doomtors office and head back north.
We stop at a resturant for pancake "breakfast". Sunshine eats.all.her.food.
We need the oil changed.
We go to get the car taken care of and get groceries. This takes about two hours.
When we leave the Wal*mart, we end up stopping at the King*Soopers and spend another hour there, Sunshine is starting to burn out, and instead of a massive breakdown, we practice talking in alien language and giggling.
Finally back in the car. It's 5:30. We're hungry. We're still an hour from home.
Sunshine gets in the car and allows us to buckle her in. We chatter some more and play and she points out for the fifteen-fifty-thousandth times that she.is.hungry. NOW. Please.
We get BK and she eats all.of.her.food. (again).
I get gas.
She needs to go potty.
She does and allows herself to be buckled in again.
We drive home. (Remember, an hour?)
She helps carry things in.
She does her vest. She starts to melt down but pulls through.
She gets dressed for bed.
She gets in bed.
We are in awe that the day did.not.suck.
(PS, it's 6PM and we have paid, but no massive fits, no bedroom trips, just... non-complacent) But she still did her school work!)
