scary, SCARY, S-C-A-R-Y

Our daughter had a seizure this morning.
She had finished her vest and was helping MommyM make breakfast, sitting on a chair at the kitchen table.
She said, "My brain is tired... I'm getting tired."
MommyM looked up to respond and her eyes were rolling back in her head.
She started to shake her arms and arched her back.
She slid off the kitchen chair so gently and flopped onto her side, head and back still arched, kicking her legs as if she were swimming.
I got down to her and put my hand on her, making sure she wasn't in danger of aspirating, biting anything, or slamming her sweet little head into the dining room wall.
She stopped and regained control after about 25 seconds. (According to the clock. Which lies, it had to be several minutes.) MommyT pulled her onto her lap and snuggled her into a ball of baby.
MommyM called 9-1-1.
The actual seizure was easy to deal with in comparison to the ten minutes it took her to stop screaming and sobbing afterwards. She didn't know how or why she fell and didn't get why she was on the floor. She also said, "OH NO!! This is like what had happened I was at *old adoptive mom's*"
Sunshine calmed down and MommyT laid her in the middle of our big bed.
The EMTs came.
Checked her out. Poked her toe for a blood sugar test.
Let us drive her to the hospital after we got dressed.
We got to the hospital about 45 minutes after the actual seizure (remember, we had to wait 25 min. for the EMT to get here and do their thing. So we got dressed and to the hosp. in record time).
They gave her a stuffedy, put her in the gurney.
They gave her an IV line and drew blood through it.
The let her sit.
The let her eat.
They took her for a CET scan.
They let her wait.
The dr came in and said tell the psych, take her home, if it happens again, we may want to talk about medicine.

But she seems ok.
Clearly stressed by her voice and her minimal reign on control, but OK.
She's OK.

I've been reading your blog for nearly a year, I think..anyway a terribly long time.

We are just at the beginning of our foster/adopt adventure. Although we have 3 bio children already and proivide respite care for 2 local friends who foster :)

I love your honesty, humor and true, deep love you have for your Sunshine. Thank you for sharing such a personal tale. It helps to remind me to take things in context more..and prepares me for what lies ahead.
